Tips & Techniques
MS WORD
Viewing Multiple Windows:

Have more than one document open at a time? Word lets you view all the documents at the same time. And you can arrange each document window the way you like.

  1. Choose "Arrange All" from the Window menu. This divides the screen space evenly between all your windows. The main benefit here is that all your document windows get at least some space on the screen.
  2. Click on a window and it becomes active.
  3. Move the mouse cursor near the border of the "active" window. The cursor will turn into a set of arrows. Press the mouse button and drag the corner, side or bottom of the window to the size you want. Release the mouse button.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each window you want to adjust.
Tables:

In the newer versions of WORD the tables function often works better then columns. Tables are easy to manipulate, allow for quick entry of information, and can be aligned in any fashion you choose. Many folks think you must have visual borders if you use a table format. That is not true. You can turn off the border feature quite easily.

Simply block the area of the table that you want borderless, right click and go to "Borders and Shading." On the "borders" tab, click on the "none" icon under "settings." Although a faint line will still show on your screen, when you print the document you will not have any obvious frames or borders.

The faint line on the screen is your tip-off that the text in that area is in a table — and it also allows you to quickly know where to enter the various information you want placed in the table.
